How April Fools Day got started

April Fool’s Day, is sometimes called All Fool’s Day. The History of April Fools Day is a fact that isn’t known by many, but has a simple explanation.

Historians think that April Fools Day started in France when on April 1, 1582, Charles IX introduced the Gregorian Calendar and moved New Year’s Day to January 1st. However, news of this was spread slowly (no internet in those days!) and many of the people did not receive the news for several years.

Therefore, some people celebrated New Years on April 1st and were called ‘fools’ by the more educated population who knew of the calendar change. Eventually, playing practical jokes on these ‘fools’ on april fools day became a common pastime. Some say april fools jokes should only be played in the morning before 1:00pm.
